SLJ Week 1 Activity 4

LI: To create a piece of insect art.

This week for our activity 4, from a summer learning journey. We were inspired by art creations by Raku Inoue . We went outside and collected leaves, twigs, and other plant debris to create our own insect images that we thought could make an insect out of native wood or other fresh , uneven , dead plants . Something i found interesting about doing this activity was exploring through the native in our school and being able to be creative and find plants or sticks twigs that i thought could make a creative insect.I found it quite hard to find my items to create my insect because i was thinking about to much insects so i went for a simple one and chose to do a stick insect . I enjoyed this activity because I got to explore with my friends to find my insects items and I got to hear what they were doing and it gave me ideas . Here are three interesting things about stick insects : Stick insects have eyes but there vision is a bit poor but they don't ears but they can sense important sounds , It takes about 8 months for  stick insects to hatch  from there eggs , Stick insects can live upto 5 years but female stick insects can live as twice as male stick insects live .

SLJ Week 1 Activity 1

LI: To collect materials needed to successfully complete our weekly superpower building missions with Nano Girl.

This morning LS2 worked in groups with our Year 4 students to help them create their first Summer Learning Journey blog posts. PBS are still at school this week so finding some of the materials we needed for our treasure hunt was easy. Our challenge is going to be able to find all the materials we need at home now. I found this activity very easy because I am looking forward to make something cool.

What would you make using these items?    `

LI: Create a DLO about buying a present for my household with $100 dollars .

This DLO is about what presents i would buy for my household with exact $100 dollars budget . I shopped at the  warehouse and gave a clear explanation why i bought and how much money i had left  . Something i found interesting about doing the maths challenges were about exploring through the warehouse online shopping to find a present i thought my family would like and how much the item is .

Digital Board Game.

LI: To create a digital board game for the juniors.

This week we designed digital board games with a Christmas theme to play with the junior students. To play the game successfully they will need to read and follow the instructions, then use their counting skills to move around the board. Today we showed our Year 4 students how to make their own games. This was a fun way to share our learning and help the younger students.

Operation Christmas Drop

LI: To write a summary of the story behind the Operation Christmas Drop in your own words.

This week for research  we learn about the operation christmas drop. For the last 68 years the men and women of the US air force who are based at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam have been using a pilot training drill to drop much needed supplies to the people who live on the 60 remote islands that surround Guam. Operation Christmas Drop allows the people living in these remote islands to sustain a better life and the communities to flourish.I think this is a great way to help others and make a difference in peoples lives. These people are really grateful and happy to receive the Christmas Drop.

Te Whanau Raukura Performance

Today a kapa haka group was performaning in our school and they performaned from Te Whanau Raukura and how they used Taiaha, Poi and Te rakau to explain the meaning behind elements of the Maori culture. I really like how they dance and how they sing the maori song and my favourite part is how they do the haka and how they shout the words and we were very glad to see them and we were very nice to see them performance in our school.
