The 3 Laws of Inertia

 LI: To learn about Inertia

This week we learnt about Inertia, Inertia is a force of physics. There are 3 laws of Inertia. The three are Inertia of Rest, Inertia of Motion and Inertia of Direction. Inertia is the tendency to resist a change of motion. You experience Inertia all the time, for example when in a car and the car suddenly stops you jerk forward because of the change of velocity or speed. For this activity Chris ,Lukah , Sakina & Haylee and I worked collaboratively to create this DLO. Something we found interesting was that Inertia was an everyday thing we experienced but we never really noticed.

Elections

LI: To decide which political party will get your vote by making an informed choice.

To decide which political party I would vote for I read a summary of the policies each party wants to introduce should they win the election and the right to form a government to run NZ. Doing this allowed me to make an informed decision. If I was 18 I would vote for National because they would provide authorities special powers to deal with young offenders. This means if National Won the election in my electorate Kanawaljit Singh Bakshi would be our member of parliament and Judith Collins would become the Prime Minister.

Wise choices explanation

 LI: To write an explanation.

Why it is important to make wise

choices.

How many times have you dropped plastic on the ground?

Because people are being careless, sea animals are getting sick or dying from eating plastic. When people don’t put their plastic in the bin it will go down our drains and end up in the ocean.

Sea animals eat the plastic because they think it is food. This can be very harmful to them. An example of this is if a turtle swallows a plastic bag it could stop them from breathing or being able to eat, then they may end up dying.

We can all help to stop this problem getting worse by making sure we put our plastic rubbish in the bin.

This week we wrote an explanation about Why it is important to make wise choices.
My explanation is about the problems caused by plastic pollution. I think we all need to make sure that we do the right thing and put our plastic rubbish in the bin to keep our oceans clean and our sea creatures safe.

Reading with RJ

Today RJ helped me to read and he asked me some questions from the where, who, what, when, where dice. I'm very proud of myself as I tried hard to say the words that were new to me.  I had the confidence to read the book and could talk about it when RJ asked me questions. This was a fun activity.

Time

LI: To work out the elapsed time.

Today our group used the maths clocks to help us work out the answers to the elapsed time questions. Elapsed means the time that has gone by. It was fun doing maths and I like working together with my friends because it means we can talk about the strategies we are using.

It's Cool To Be Me!

LI: To identify my own qualities

This DLO shows you why it's cool to be me! I have written about my friends and myself, my favourite things to do and what my goals are. I think it's great to be me because I have an awesome family.

Sunflower Painting

LI: To paint a still life of sunflowers in the style of Vincent Van Gogh.

In this DLO above, I have learnt to draw what I see and make use of all the space available. To get the different shades I mixed colours to make light and dark tones of the same colour. I learnt to use layers of paint to build the colours and I had to remember not to overload the brush with paint. I dabbed the brush and thought carefully about brush stroke direction to create sharp edges and lines. I really liked painting my sunflowers because I had fun and my picture looks like the flowers I could see.

Food Technology

LI: To make chicken fried rice

Today was our first time at Food Tech and I loved it! Mrs Heka helped us follow a recipe to make chickenfried rice. My favourite part was eating the fired rice that Giovanni and I made, but I also really liked slicing the chicken because I help mum by doing that at home. I'm looking forward to finding out what we are going to make next week.

Vincent van Gogh Timeline

LI: To create a timeline to show the life of Vincent Van Gogh.

Made with Padlet

My group worked collaboratively using Padlet to create a timeline about the life of Vincent Van Gogh. Van Gogh was an artist from the post impressionist movement which meant he liked to paint still life paintings that captured a moment in time. We found it really interesting that while he was alive he didn't sell many paintings but in 1990, 100 years after his death, a painting by him sold for $82.5 million!
