How to make hot cake

LI: To structure and write a procedural text

For writing we have been learning how to write a procedural text. To do this we used the recipe we followed at Tech. Thisprocedure tells the reader how to make hot cakes. Before we wrote this we worked collaboratively to order the pictures Mrs Anderson took of us making the hotcakes. Once we had done that we matched each photo with a verb. A verb is an action word and tells anyone following the recipe what they need to do. After that we use the verbs as sentence startersand collaboratively wrote a list of instructions.

Elephant dung

Today our non fiction reading was about how elephant dung is used to make paper. I learnt lots of interesting fact. Did you know that an elephant produces 50kg of dung per day? In Thailand and Sri Lanka paper makers collect the dung in sacks and it then gets cleaned in a boiler and goes through a machine to make it thinner.

Robotics at Tamaki College

Today for tech we were learning coding, on M block with Mrs Ferguson at Tamaki College. We were coding an M bot. Our challenge was to code the M bot, to move in a square. We also included a victory dance, and song, for our success, at the end of the program. I also used indicators, to show which direction, I was going in. My favorite part of the robotics, was watching my M bot, process my code (watching my robot move). I also liked programming it, because I learnt new types of moves, to put in my program to make my robot move. This was very fun, because I learnt how to code a robot.

Word Cline sad

LI: To find 5 interesting words that increase in intensity (have a stronger meaning) as you move up the line.

Today we used the thesaurus to make a word cline for the word ‘sad’. As the words go up the line they become more powerful. Here is an example of a sentence I wrote today using my word cline. I was unhappy because  I didn't finish my homework.

The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs

LI: To retell True Story of the 3 Little Pigs in my own words

Today my group read the True Story of the 3 Little Pigs. After listening to the story we used the retelling pathway to help us retell the main events in pairs. My favourite part was when the wolf ran out of sugar because he looked really annoyed in the picture.I made a Screencastify so you can listen to me retell the story in my own words.

Lockdown Memories

LI: To create a digital time capsule of our lockdown memories.

We used images and words to tell the story of our time in Alert Level 4 and in Alert Level 3. The most important part of this time was keeping ourselves safe, being with our families and keeping our learning going. My favourite memory is cooking with my mum.

Word Cline: big

LI: To find 5 interesting words that increase in intensity (have a stronger meaning) as you move up the line.

Today we built a word cline for the word ‘big’. As the words go up the line they become more powerful. Here is an example of a sentence I wrote today using my word cline. I saw a large dog at the park.
